How Long Does Shockwave Therapy for ED Last?

Shockwave therapy is widely recognized as one of the newest modalities for ED treatments for several reasons. Its long-lasting effectiveness is one of the factors that allow it to stand out from other available alternatives. While other current measures are mainly palliative, shockwave therapy, on the other hand, gives the possibility of permanent restoration to erectile functions. From the early results of clinical research in the U.S. and other parts of the world, it can be deduced that shockwave therapy is changing the future of ED therapy.

Clinical Evidence on Long-Lasting Efficacy of Shockwave Therapy for ED

In a study published by Science Direct, the efficacy of shockwave therapy for ED was examined in 20 men who had mild-to-moderate ED as a result of cardiovascular disease; they all had previously responded to PDE5 inhibitors. In the first three weeks of the study, the men underwent two treatment sessions per week. After that, a three-week no-treatment interval was observed, and that was followed by the second three weeks of treatment, also at two treatment sessions per week. From the result of the study, both short-term and long-term findings were recorded:

  • 75% of the men showed improvement with each person boasting of an average increase in IEEF-EF of 7.4 points
  • The treatment had increased their penile blood flow and nocturnal penile tumescence (the spontaneous erection of the penis when sleeping and when just waking up)
  • After 6 months, the majority of these men were still able to have a spontaneous erection sufficient for penetration without PDE5 inhibitors.

Also, there was another incorporated study involving 29 men who were non-responders to PDE5 inhibitors. As part of the findings, it was reported that 76% (22 out of 29) recorded an improved IIEF-EF domain score of nothing less than 5 points with an increase of 18.8 from a baseline of 8.8.

How Does Shockwave Therapy for ED Work?

Shockwave therapy for ED is a non-invasive procedure that uses low-energy shock impulses to improve blood flow to the penis. Naturally, the arteries that supply blood into your penis should be opened up for blood flow into the penis whenever you are sexually stimulated.

The blood flow will lead to an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Having enough blood flow will also help keep the vein constricted until ejaculation. Men with ED or impotence are unable to achieve or maintain an erection due to the dysfunctional nature of their penile area, which may be an effect of emotional, psychological or medical problems.

Shockwave therapy helps in growing new blood vessels from the existing vessels, which will, in turn, lead to natural stimulation of sexual urges. After the treatment, the newly-created blood vessels will help enhance your sexual performance, help achieve better and more frequent orgasms, satisfy your partner better, and regain your self-confidence.

According to research studies, the effects of shockwave therapy could last for several years. This makes it a highly preferable option when compared to other ED treatments, such as injections, oral medications and vacuum devices which can only provide a temporary fix and will be repeatedly needed for each sexual encounter.

Is Shockwave Therapy Only for Men With Erectile Dysfunction?

Shockwave therapy is not only meant for men with ED. It is also available for women with sexual dysfunction issues and for men who are having a healthy sex life but would like to improve their performance in bed. It does not only treat sexual problems, but it also enhances men’s sex life.

Worldwide studies have shown that Shockwave therapy is also beneficial for men with Peyronie’s disease since it promotes angiogenesis and can improve blood flow to the penis.

The importance of a healthy sex life in any sexual relationship cannot be overemphasized. Regardless of age, you will always want to be at your sexual best. No matter how healthy your sex life is, you can still seek improvement, and this is one of the numerous advantages that shockwave therapy has to offer. So, you don’t have to be an ED patient to benefit from the efficacy of the procedure.

How Long Will I Have to Undergo the Therapy?

Before the actual treatment, a clinician will carry out a thorough medical history of your case. The result will determine the number of sessions of shockwave therapy you will undergo and for how long. If choosing the in-clinic treatments offered at our clinic in South Florida, after going through 6 – 12 sessions, which will likely be two treatment sessions per week, you should be able to have tremendously improved your sex life. Each session lasts for 15-30 minutes.

Due to privacy, personal and physical convenience issues, most men choose the PowerWave In Home Unit nation-wide program also offered at Shockwave Therapy MD. This program can be purchased for a great price and the Shockwave therapy can be used in the privacy of your own home without any limits to the number of therapies to be obtained until the desired results are achieved for sexual enhancement issues for both men and women. The PowerWave In Home Unit is also useful for aches and pains in other parts of the body.

Does Shockwave Therapy for ED Have Side Effects?

One of the qualities this procedure has over other ED treatment alternatives is that since its emergence, there has not been a record of any side effects. In different countries where it has been used, the process and the aftermath were completely free of complications. Unlike surgery, Viagra and other sexual enhancement drugs that have several side effects, shockwave therapy is not only safe treatment for ED, it also helps eliminate the cause of erectile dysfunction. Apart from the tingling sensation during the process and the possibility of redness in the treated area after the treatment, the procedure is a painless and stress-free one.

Additionally, shockwave therapy for ED guarantees a quick turnaround as you will be able to have sexual intercourse as soon as after undergoing the treatment.

Furthermore, shockwave therapy does not require taking time off from work; you will be able to resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment. Although the treatment is yet to get the approval of the FDA, this, however, doesn’t change the fact that it remains a harmless, effective, and long-lasting solution to erectile dysfunction.
